The James Beard Book Awards are overwhelmingly a cookbook prize: the large majority of categories (General, International, Single Subject, Baking, Vegetable-Focused, Photography, Professional, Hall of Fame, Cookbook of the Year) recognize recipe collections, visual work, or lifetime honors and are out of scope for a narrative nonfiction index. The importer keeps only the three lineages that reward authored prose. Because the Foundation renames categories almost every year, each registry category is a lineage the parser resolves by alias table rather than by exact string match. The official jamesbeard.org awards search is a client-side JavaScript application with no server-rendered records and no discoverable JSON endpoint, so Wikipedia's decade pages are used as a deterministic secondary source; they publish winners only.
